Sleeping with allergies

One of the principal keys to getting a good night's sleep is to keep nasty allergies at bay.

Around 1 in 3 people in Australia will develop allergies some time during their life, and this is a serious problem. One of the more common allergies - allergic rhinitis (hay fever) - results in a poor quality sleep, and perpetual sleepiness throughout the day.

Adults find it hard to be at work; and suffer from more work-related injury. They also find it harder to make important decisions.

The symptoms of allergies also cause sleep problems, and unfortunately, many antihistamines that help allergic symptoms also cause daytime drowsiness.  Often the symptoms of allergies are treated with drugs (e.g. decongestants like pseudo-ephedrine) that can make it difficult to fall asleep, limiting their usefulness.
